I haven’t posted for a while as I didn’t have anything that interesting to say about the last few days.

Yesterday was Anzac day, a public holiday to remember fallen veterans.

The day started with a dawn service after which millions of Australians gathered in pubs and RSLs around the country to play two-up. Anzac Day is one of the only days of the year the 50/50 game of chance is legal.

A not insubstantial amount of beer got drunk, and no doubt up there with Australia Day and Melbourne Cup (maybe more French champagne on that one).

Basically, much of the country got hammered!

In the spirit of things, I did have a non-alcoholic lager yesterday evening.

Non-alcoholic beer: the Pepsi v Coke for grownups! Pepsi and Coke are both disgusting though, unlike proper beer which is nectar of the gods….

Come to think of it, we humans have, over millennia, associated wine and beer with the gods….

Cola, not so much… Although Coke is apparently more popular than Jesus….

I digress!

It’s Friday morning on week 4, and I am back from a 65 mins easy run.

Running volume is broadly on target to be the same as the last couple weeks- circa 45km. I have pulled back on the speed and have run easy to shed some of the load.

All the running advice is 80/20. The Pareto Principle in reverse, of sorts, 80% easy effort at conversational pace and 20% hard effort.

It’s really quite tricky purposefully slowing down to “slow and slower still” despite knowing, long term, it reduces the chance of injury whilst building up base endurance capacity, and, counterintuitively, making you a faster runner.

I am very definitely closer to 70/30…

I’ll take that thought into this week-end’s long run.
