“Jusqu’ici tout va bien, jusqu’ici tout va bien, jusqu’ici tout va bien. Mais l'important n’est pas la chute, c’est l’atterrissage”. Hubert Koundé, Day 4.

This is the closing scene of la Haine, when Hubert- one of the three main characters – describes falling from a building whilst repeating “so far I’m doing fine, it’s not the fall that’s important, it’s the landing”.

The film is a commentary about urban poverty, and much has been written about that scene.

The metaphor has zero relevance to my sober-curious experiment other than so far, so good, must not fall off the wagon- and even that is a stretch! It just sounds good in my head, and anyway, I am nowhere near falling off the wagon.

It’s only day 4!

So, what have I learned so far and what do I have to share?

As you could have probably deduced from the above filler, not much!

Has anything changed?

Not substantially.

I have drawn up a calendar that I have stuck to the fridge door to track progress by marking off the days using a big green felt-tip pen.  My advent calendar of sorts. I guess it does tickle the median forbrain bundle*

I am sleeping better, as in waking up fresh and earlier (with extra time to journal)- so that’s good!

The first test is the first weekend, and to get ahead of the challenge, I don’t have any social engagements. Making the most of the newfound early morning possibilities, all planned activities have a very early start….
